The Tiffen Multi Rota Tray Variable Neutral Density Kit is a single geared rotating tray that allows the use and rotation of a 138mm Circular Polarizer filter and a 4×5.65″ Circular Polarizer simultaneously. The tray is designed for use with matte boxes that lack a rotating filter stage, or for instances where a secondary rotating filter stage is required in a non-rotating stage. It can be used with just the included geared 138mm Circular Polarizer, or paired with the included 4×5.65″ Circular Polarizer to function as a variable neutral density filter or to produce warm/cool effects, depending on the direction the tray and 4×5.65″ filter are facing. A spare 4×5.65″ Circular Polarizer is included..

The Multi Rota Tray fits into matte boxes which conform to the ARRI R2 tray size standard and its geared adjustment provides precise either by control by hand or a 0.8 MOD (32 pitch) gear wheel on a follow focus. It comes packaged in a rugged, compartmentalized storage case for protection and easy transport of the tray and included filters.

The Tiffen 4 x 5.65″ ND 0.9 Filter is a solid neutral density filter providing a 3-stop exposure reduction. This 0.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 5.65″ / 101.6 x 143.5mm.

The Tiffen 4 x 5.65″ Pearlescent 1/4 Filter can be applied to purposely soften contrast and reduce sharpness. This can be useful for high-resolution digital cinematography in order to create a more flattering result of a subject by reducing the appearance of blemishes and softening highlights. Additionally, a pearlescent halo around highlights is created which can further enhance a subject’s appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter has a grade of 1/4. Grades of 1/8, 1/2, 1, and 2 are also available where this filter type’s effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

The Tiffen 4 x 5.65″ Smoque 1 Filter can be applied to simulate the presence of smoke within a frame or scene. It can be used to substitute typical theatrical smoke generators such as smoke cookies, chips, pellets, grenades, or aerosols. This filter can also be used to supplement the use of such smoke generators to help provide a consistent appearance of smoke, particularly if wind or other conditions prevent physical smoke from settling or staying within a frame or scene. The use of physical smoke is associated with the release of solid particles into the air. By lessening or eliminating the release of those particles, a more predictable and comfortable photo or film set can be maintained.

This filter has a grade of 1. Grades of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 2, 3, and 4 are also available where this filter type’s effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.
